Earlier today the Mets acquired Luis Ayala from the Washington Nationals for second baseman Anderson Hernandez.
I know, no big deal...but it's worth a shot, we basically gave up nothing for nothing, so why not give it a shot.
Ayala is having a less than good season, 1-8 with a 5.77 ERA in 62 games. Ayala missed the the whole 2006 season recovering from Tommy John surgery and only pitched in 42 games last year, but had some success, a 3.19 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 43 innings.
Is Ayala the answer for the bullpen mess? I doubt it, but it's worth a shot.
