The Amazin' Johan
Written by Mike Sinko

What an amazin' pitching performance from the ace Johan Santana. Oh my, he threw his heart out their today. Going on three days rest after throwing a career high 125 pitches and comes out today and throws 117 pitches for a complete game three-hit shutout. This is unreal. He had his super-changeup working today. Striking out 9 batters, and walking three. A great performance from Johan who I know he had to feed of the crowd, the crowd today was phenomenal, electric, Johan chants during the 7-9th innings, certainly a step up from the past two nights. A great moment from Johan was after the game, he kissed the game ball and threw it into the stands, as if saying this was one for you guys.

The offense was silent for the most part today. Scoring a Reyes run in the first inning. Jose lead the game off with a single, then stole second base, Carlos Beltran singled advancing Reyes to third, Carlos Delgado comes up with a sac-fly and give the Mets an early lead. To be honest, that's all we needed. Later, Daniel Murphy was hit by a pitch and was driven in by the new unsung hero, Ramon Martinez, who doubled Murphy in to give us a 2-0 lead.

Doc Gooden was the last Mets player to pitch a complete game going on three days rest in 1987.

I'm sorry, but doesn't this look all to familiar? Last year John Maine pitches a gem on the second to last game of the season and Tom Glavine goes out on the last day and doesn't make it past the the first inning giving up seven runs. Oliver Perez will most likely pitch tomorrow and we all know he's capable of an outing like Glavines last year. Keep your fingers crossed.
