Mets come from behind with a four run eighth to pickup the victory 6-3 and take the reigns in the NL East.
A rare incident occurred during tonight's game. The Mets scored four runs in the eighth inning...It's known that the bats fall asleep late in games this year. The best part about it was scoring the the brunt of the runs off of Brad Lidge. Lidge who gave up the go ahead runs on a double from Daniel Murphy, who snapped an 0 for 16 slump. But the story of game, heck, story of the year, was Carlos Delgado. Can't say enough about him this year, we all called for his head early on this season. Delgado hit a huge game tying home run of off Rudy Seanez in the eighth inning that tied the game. Delgado's 30th of the year. I can't stress how huge that home run was, with the way we have been scoring after the seventh inning and beyond, I though this game was over if we didn't tie it up in the eighth.
Someone turned the light switch on. 'Cause "Lights out Lidge" was just not that tonight. We got to him, and got to him good. Scoring the go ahead runs off him in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Daniel Murphy's double put us ahead 4-3, then out of nowhere, Brian Schneider, who has shown some pop lately, bloops a base hit down the third base line to drive in Church and Murphy to put us ahead, not only in the game, but in the standings as well.
Luis Ayala pitched a 1-2-3 ninth innings to close out the game and picks up his second save of the year. I was hoping Jerry Manuel would go back to him tonight after last nights loss. He didn't pitch bad last night, just ran into some tough luck. It's good to see Jerry show some confidence in a reliever.
Carlos Delgado, as I mentioned earlier, was on fire again tonight. 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored. Picking up his 30th home run and 93rd RBI on the year. He's putting up solid numbers, he should definitely be considered for comeback player of the year or even MVP. :)Johan Santana labored during tonight's game. Throwing 106 pitches in six innings. But he kept us in the game by only allowing three runs while striking out six. The only downside was giving up the two home runs. One to Ryan Howard and the other to Jayson Werth.
Dare I say it? The bullpen was solid tonight. Brian Stokes who picked up the win, pitched back-to-back nights, a scoreless seventh, although he walked two and gave up a hit. Pedro Feliciano and Joe Smith combined for a hitless eighth inning to hold it for the newly acquired closer Luis Ayala.
Talk about a great series. These last two games felt like October Baseball, of course they have October implications. Tell me not, this would make a great NLCS. That's if the Phillies make it that far.
