Mets win sixth in a row with a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
A dominate performance from our ace Johan Santana. A three hit complete game shutout, his first complete game shutout as a Met, second complete game of the year. Johan was pretty much un-hittable today, throwing 113 pitches and only allowing three hits, didn't walk a single batter and struck out seven. Johan has really picked it up in his last five starts, 4-1 over that span only allowing a total of seven runs. He's currently third in the National League in innings pitched with 176, fourth in ERA with 2.79.
Brian Schneider provided all the offense we need today with a three-RBI performance. A two-run home run in the second inning, and a RBI single in the fourth. After going two months without a homer, Schneider has two home runs this week alone matching what he had on the season prior to last week. Carlos Beltran added to the lead with a solo home run in the sixth inning, his 17th on the year.
The bullpen got a much needed rest today with the superb outing from Johan Santana.
We're riding high right now, winning six in a row, a 2.5 game lead over the Phillies. Winning our first six games on this road trip, tomorrow morning we look to make it a perfect seven.
WP: J. Santana (11-7) LP: J. Karstens (2-2)
