Over this past week MagicMets.com was compromised by some hacker who's probably 30 years old and lives in his mother's basement. Anyway, every user in our Database has been erased. I'm working on it now and will provide details as they occur. Thank You. |

Mets win sixth in a row with a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
A dominate performance from our ace Johan Santana. A three hit complete game shutout, his first complete game shutout as a Met, second complete game of the year. Johan was pretty much un-hittable today, throwing 113 pitches and only allowing three hits, didn't walk a single batter and struck out seven. Johan has really picked it up in his last five starts, 4-1 over that span only allowing a total of seven runs. He's currently third in the National League in innings pitched with 176, fourth in ERA with 2.79.
Brian Schneider provided all the offense we need today with a three-RBI performance. A two-run home run in the second inning, and a RBI single in the fourth. After going two months without a homer, Schneider has two home runs this week alone matching what he had on the season prior to last week. Carlos Beltran added to the lead with a solo home run in the sixth inning, his 17th on the year.
The bullpen got a much needed rest today with the superb outing from Johan Santana.
We're riding high right now, winning six in a row, a 2.5 game lead over the Phillies. Winning our first six games on this road trip, tomorrow morning we look to make it a perfect seven.
WP: J. Santana (11-7) LP: J. Karstens (2-2) |

Earlier today the Mets acquired Luis Ayala from the Washington Nationals for second baseman Anderson Hernandez.
I know, no big deal...but it's worth a shot, we basically gave up nothing for nothing, so why not give it a shot.
Ayala is having a less than good season, 1-8 with a 5.77 ERA in 62 games. Ayala missed the the whole 2006 season recovering from Tommy John surgery and only pitched in 42 games last year, but had some success, a 3.19 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 43 innings.
Is Ayala the answer for the bullpen mess? I doubt it, but it's worth a shot. |

Not so great news for Billy |

It was reported he was going to be activated on Monday and everything was going according to schedule, but, all that changed today. Billy pitched a simulated game in Pittsburgh today and felt discomfort in his pitching elbow and will be headed back to NY and may need to see team doctors. Billy said earlier; “I had way too good stuff in Binghamton” “It was silly stupid. But bouncing back the next day, the elbow was very sore.”
This is definitely not good news for us. We were expected to get through Monday with the bullpen by committee thing, but, it's going to be sometime longer now. |

Kunz hasn't pitched since August 10th, today is the 16th, why hasn't he pitched since? With all the pitchers we use in an inning, it would've been nice to see him in at least one of those games. There's no point having him around if he's not going to see any action. Send him back down then so he could get some work in and hopefully comeback stronger. We really can't tell if he's Major League ready, he's pitched only 2.1 innings and gave up one run and two hits. So I don't know, I definitely think he should be used more and be given a so called "role" |

In case you don't know...'cause you live on another planet....the Mets are in first, the Marlins have falling 3 1/2 games out and the Phillies are just a game out, but their offense is struggling. We have won 7 out of our last 9 games, and we're not at full strength, if you think about it....we haven't been at full strength all year. With the return of Wagner and Church, although no timetable for Church is set, you have to think Church will be back the first week of September and that will only be a bonus for us. If we can get our bullpen back on track, we could take this division.
You also have to look at our schedule, 8 of our next 13 series are against teams .500 or worse. This is the perfect time to put together a few winning streaks and run away with this thing. I'm praying we clinch before the final week of the season, we got the Cubs for four and the Marlins for three...we all remember the last week of the season last year...sorry for bringing that up...just thought I point that out. If the Cubs clinch before they come into Shea, that would be a huge plus for us. Obviously if they clinch they will be resting their top players and that will help us out tremendously. |

We could finally not to have to bite our nails when the ninth inning comes around come Monday. Wagner's return is going to as planned. After pitching the other night in Binghamton, Wags is set to pitch a simulated game tonight and...cross your fingers...if everything goes well, he would be activated on Monday. |

Today Ryan Church played a rehab game for the GCL Mets, where he DH'd and went 1 for 3.
Still no timetable for his return. Th Mets are being extremely cautious with him this time, which is understandable. Where inching closer to the end of the season and with the way our outfield is producing, it's going to be interesting to see what role he has. |
